Strike as your opponent commits. The economy of the straight line. Stop hits, not reactions.

Trained under resistance. Pressure-tested. Skills that hold up when it counts.
Real
No forms. No choreography. No pretending. Just what Bruce Lee actually developed and taught.
What Is Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do?
Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do is the art Bruce Lee developed across his lifetime. It is the direct expression of his combat philosophy through specific techniques, training methods, and principles he refined and taught to a small number of students before his death in 1973.
It is not a style in the traditional sense. It is a way of training, moving, and thinking that produces martial artists who are functional, adaptable, and effective across all areas of combat, from striking and kicking through to trapping and grappling.
Most people who claim to teach JKD have never trained directly in the lineage. At Applied Martial Arts, we teach from verified, direct lineage. Not an interpretation, not a copy of a copy. The real thing, trained alive, applied under pressure.
Bruce Lee's Complete Evolution
We teach Jun Fan in full. Not just one period, not just concepts. The complete arc of what Bruce Lee developed, from his earliest training to his most mature expression of combat.
Wing Chun Foundation
Bruce Lee's root art under Ip Man. The structural principles, centreline theory, and close-range sensitivity that underpinned everything that followed.
Seattle / Oakland Jun Fan Gung Fu
The evolution into a broader striking art. Integration of Western boxing, longer-range kicking, and the development of Bruce's signature directness and economy of motion.
Chinatown Refinement
The period of greatest technical refinement. Bruce Lee sharpened the art into its most pure expression, relentlessly stripping away anything that didn't earn its place.
Mature JKD Concepts
The philosophical culmination. A framework for absorbing and integrating any effective combat method. The principle behind the principle, applicable across all areas and systems.
Certified Instruction
Our Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do is taught by Instructor Jeff Hollows, a certified JKD instructor under Sifu Burton Richardson, one of the most respected names in the JKD world, and a direct student of the art's most senior figures.
This matters. In an art where anyone can claim a connection to Bruce Lee, formal certification under a recognised authority is the difference between genuine transmission and guesswork. Our instruction carries a verified, traceable line back to the source, and that lineage is reflected in everything taught on the mat.
Certified under Sifu Burton Richardson and JKD Unlimited. The real art, taught by someone formally qualified to teach it, not an interpretation passed down from a copy of a copy.
The Eight Phase Curriculum
At Applied Martial Arts, Jun Fan JKD is taught through a structured Eight Phase Curriculum, a documented, progressive syllabus that takes students from foundational skills through to full functional command of the art. Every phase builds on the last, with clear standards and progression markers at each step.
The Technical Syllabus
The complete curriculum is documented in a formal technical syllabus authored by Instructor Jeff Hollows. Students get a clear roadmap of what to develop at each phase, and the phase structure is the same reference point instructors work from.
This is not a curriculum invented on the fly. It is a written, structured programme, rooted in Bruce Lee's own development of the art and delivered through verified lineage.
If you're serious about working through the curriculum, speak to Instructor Jeff Hollows. He can walk you through the syllabus, the phase progression, and the sparring log book requirements.
What You Actually Develop
JKD training is built on developing attributes, not just memorising techniques. The goal is to make you a better fighter, not a better performer of choreographed sequences.
- →Direct, economical striking that generates power without telegraphing
- →Interception, hitting your opponent as they commit rather than after
- →Trapping, bridging the gap between striking and close-range control
- →Sensitivity and flow, reading and responding to what your opponent gives you
- →Footwork and positioning, the foundation everything else is built on
The Training Methodology
What makes Jun Fan JKD different from most martial arts isn't just what is taught. It's how it's taught. The alive training methodology is the difference between skill that works and skill that only works on a compliant partner.
Alive Training
Progressive resistance from the first session. Training partners who don't cooperate. Skills built under pressure, not in a vacuum.
Sparring & Application
Isolated and full sparring rounds where principles are tested, not demonstrated. If it doesn't work under pressure, it doesn't stay.
Why Lineage Matters
The Problem With Most JKD
JKD is one of the most misrepresented arts in the world. Because Bruce Lee never awarded formal ranks, anyone can claim to teach it. The result is that most of what passes for JKD has been diluted beyond recognition, filtered through people who learned from people who learned from videos.
The art that gets taught often bears little resemblance to what Bruce Lee actually developed and practised.
Direct Transmission
The subtleties of Jun Fan, the precise mechanics of the straight blast, the structure of trapping, the footwork that makes interception possible, cannot be learnt from books or online courses. They require hands-on instruction, immediate feedback, and progressive testing against resistance.
At Applied Martial Arts we teach from verified lineage, in small groups, with the individual attention that real skill development demands.
What Bruce Lee Actually Built
Bruce Lee's genius was not in inventing spectacular techniques. It was in stripping away everything unnecessary and identifying the universal principles that underpin all effective combat. Directness. Economy. Adaptability. Alive training.
These principles, taught properly and trained honestly, produce genuine fighting ability regardless of your background, size, or athletic ability.
What Sets Our JKD Apart
The difference between JKD that works and JKD that doesn't comes down to how it's trained, not just what's on the curriculum.
